Earlier, the cancellation of RAC Tatkal ticket was allowed 24 hours prior to the departure. But now it is possible to cancel the tickets quite near to the departure. In case waiting tatkal tickets do not get confirmed, then the tickets get automatically cancelled and the whole amount is refunded to the passengers. Tatkal tickets are either confirmed or remain in the waiting list. However, there are fewer chances of the waiting list tickets to get confirmed. Most of the times, they are cancelled and the passengers get the refund. For tatkal tickets, a waiting list is issued by the Indian Railways, known as the Tatkal Waiting List(TQWL).
