Can we cancel tatkal waiting list ticket?

Yes, you can cancel your waiting list Tatkal tickets, up to 30 minutes prior to the departure of the train. However, it has to be in the waiting list to get the refund. In case, it gets confirmed through improvement in status or within the time period of 30 minutes, no refunds will be granted to the passenger though it can be cancelled. So, ensure to cancel the tatkal ticket when it is in the waiting list only.

If Tatkal Ticket not Confirmed?

Tatkal tickets remain in the tatkal waiting list(TQWL) until their confirmation. The number of confirmed tickets depend upon the number of seats available in different classes of the train. If a confirmed ticket is cancelled between forty-eight hours and up to twelve hours before the scheduled departure of the train, a cancellation charge of 25% will be applicable and the passenger will get the remaining 75% as the refunded amount. If it is presented for cancellation in less than 12 hours and up to 4 hours before the scheduled departure of a train or up to chart preparation, whichever is earlier, stand at 50 per cent of the fare i.e. only half the amount of the ticket will be refunded to the passenger. In case, the train is running late by 3 hours or more, then you can claim your refunds by filing a TDR request on the official site of IRCTC. So, it is advised to all the passengers to not to cancel the confirmed tatkal ticket, except in emergency situations, as it can lead to some losses to them.

Waiting tickets cancelled prior to 30 minutes of the scheduled departure of the train are entitled to refund. Full amount is refunded if the train is running late by 3 hours or more and at that time only the passenger cancels the ticket. No cancellation charges will be levied in that situation. New Tatkal Rules
